This is a meeting for all those interested in the Golden Eagles Conservation Society, open to both members and non-members, faculty and students, and anyone else willing to involve themself in an environmentalism-focused student organization. At these meetings, we discuss volunteer opportunities to help out our community, typically through the betterment of our environment or other means of conservation, relevant issues of biological importance, and ways to have fun while learning about the natural world around us. These volunteer positions can be anything from group clean-up efforts at local parks (including our bi-annual canoe trip), improving environmental protections and education exhibits at our own Lake Thoreau Environmental Center, or even lab experiences. This organization is focused on conserving our environment, meaning we are interdisciplinary and collaborative with a wide variety of scientific fields, not only including the obvious biology and ecology implications, but also integrating geographic, genetic, and anthropological approaches to environmental questions, with the hope of reaching practical, possible, and fulfilling solutions.
